Thomas James Douglas

Thomas James Douglas, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Tom was born January 19, 1945 to Thomas P. Douglas and Helen (Bonamie) Douglas in Pierre, South Dakota. He grew up in Pierre and graduated from Riggs High School in 1963. He later attended school for diesel mechanics. He was a lifelong mechanic and loved restoring classic cars. He was an avid racecar fan and traveled often to different events whenever possible.

For most of Tom’s adult life he was employed in the tire business. He worked in all positions for the business and retired as a sales executive from J.W. Brewer in 2005. After retiring he formed is own business (Douglas Auto) in Arvada, Colorado. Tom’s passions included cooking, traveling, rock & roll and spending time with family and numerous friends. He especially enjoyed his seven granddaughters, Tiffany Lyn Douglas, Tia Jean Douglas, Nikita Rae Douglas, Trinny Lynn Douglas, Sasha Roz Douglas, Taylor Jill Douglas and Jess Nicole Douglas.

He married Rosalyn Klemann and resided in Pierre, Ft. Pierre and Rapid City. To this union three sons were born, Marty R. Douglas, Tony J. Douglas and Triny L. Douglas.

He married Claudia Coon on August 13, 1980 at the StavKirk Chapel in Rapid City, SD. They resided in Rapid City, Casper, WY, and Arvada, CO. In 2008 Tom and Claudia relocated to their retirement home south of Rapid City near Rockerville.

Tom is survived by his wife, Claudia Douglas of Rapid City; two sons, Tony Douglas of Denver, Colo., Triny Douglas of Rapid City; four brothers, Kelly Douglas of Rapid City, Gerald Douglas of Gardner, MA, Paul Douglas of Rapid City, Dennis Douglas of Windsor, Colo.; two sisters, Phyllis Lindbloom of Sioux Falls, Gail Jacobson of Ft. Pierre; seven granddaughters; numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Marty Douglas, his grandparents, Carl and Mary Douglas, his parents, Thomas and Helen Douglas, a brother, Donald Douglas, and a sister Linda (Douglas) Davis.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Kirk Funeral Home from 5-7 with a 7 pm prayer service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Black Hills Church in Piedmont with Father Mark McCormick as celebrant. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Habitat for Humanity and Christian Life Ministries.
