Betty Lou Croyle, 72, died March 2, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty was born at home in Portage, PA on March 19, 1937 the 8th child of 13 born to James Blair and Lavada (Over) Stombaugh. Betty met Ron Croyle at a dance in Portage during her senior year of high school and they later married on April 9, 1956, the marriage lasted 52 years ending with Ron’s death in January 2009, she joined him on what would have been Ron’s 73rd birthday.
Betty was the most amazing strong mother her six children could ever be blessed with, even through years of declining health, she was our rock.
Betty is survived by her children: Rondi (Mark) Murphy, John (Landy) Croyle, Jim (Patty) Croyle all of Rapid City, Ruth Croyle of Box Elder, and Becky (Bryce) Beachem of Hill City; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; sisters, Wilda Servinsky and Ramona Sweeney of PA, Joan Reese of VA, and Mary Lee Rzeszut of Ohio; brothers, Cliff Stombaugh and Dennis Stombaugh of PA, Ted Stombaugh of Ohio, and Kenneth Stombaugh of VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron; son, Jeffrey Sr.; granddaughters, Heather and Raven; grandson, Freedom; brothers, Bill, Jack, and Jimmy; and sister, Cathrine.
Following Betty’s wishes her body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City with Rev. Lloyd Edwards officiating.
