Life Legacy


Ted Bauer, 82, Rapid City, SD, died Friday, October 19, 2007, at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 22, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Douglas Free officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors.
Ted was born October 7, 1925, at Dowling, SD, to Christian and Martha (Crowser) Bauer. Ted attended country schools and high school in Rapid City. At the age of 17, Ted joined the US Navy on December 17, 1943 and received his Honorable Discharge on April 23, 1946. Ted married Elaine Dale at Rapid City on September 12, 1947.
Ted worked as a truck driver, owned service stations and mechanic shops, and also worked for Old Home Bakery. He really enjoyed working on cars, bowling, hunting, coin collecting, and was a boxer in the Navy.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of DAV, NRA, and St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Bauer, Rapid City; son, Darwin (Wendy) Bauer, Black Hawk, SD; daughters, Nancy (Byron) Lowery, Mankato, MN, Jill (Terry) Haskell, Rapid City, Wendy (Artie) Schwahn, Rapid City, Rayann (Terry) Monson, Rapid City, Stacey (Chris) Danford, Cheyenne, WY; sisters, Louise (Jack) Young, Rapid City, Patty (Wayne) Hurlbut, Rapid City; sixteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lois and Dorothy.
A memorial has been established to Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
