Tom D. Bybee, 64, of Rapid City, went to be with Jesus on Sun., Aug. 26, 2012.

He was born to Ross and Dorothy Bybee on Jan. 21, 1948 in Denver, Colorado. He spent his childhood in Englewood, CO and graduated from Englewood High School in 1966. He continued his schooling at Miltonvale Wesleyan College in Miltonvale, KS where he received a degree in Theology.

While he was at college he met the love of his life, Joann Wessel. They were married on January 3, 1969 at First Wesleyan Church in Rapid City, SD. Over the years, they pastored in several churches in SD, ND, WY and CO. To this union were born three children: Kevin, Kody & Kottie.

Tom will be remembered for making every aspect of his life a ministry to others. He would take every opportunity that God gave him, and make the most of it. People in his life would seek him out for love and advice. Countless lives were changed because he obeyed Gods' voice in his life. Tom also enjoyed spending time working outside. His yard was his haven and he spent hours making it beautiful. Keeping his grass nicely mowed and his flowers pruned was just another way that Tom enjoyed what God had given him.

Tom made extra effort where his grandkids were concerned. All 11 of them have special memories of their Grandpa, memories that he intentionally made with them. He had inside, personal jokes with each of them; and all of them will remember their Grandpa Tom fondly and with a smile on their face.

Tom loved his family with a zeal that we should all strive for. He cared for, protected, and watched over his wife, Joann. She meant everything to him, and he wasn't afraid to show it. They were married for 43 years and he loved her more with each day. Tom also adored each of his three children. He loved to tell you about them; how proud he was of each of them, all that they had accomplished, and how well they were doing.

Tom was a fun loving, hard time giving, full of life man. He would give you a hard time and a wink; that's how you knew he loved you. Heaven became more interesting this week with the arrival of Tom Bybee.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Ross & Dorothy Bybee; his brothers, Bob Bybee, Ross Bybee, and John Bybee; his sisters, Charlotte Holtz and Virginia Barnett.

Tom is survived by his wife, Joann Bybee; his children, Kevin (Heidi) Bybee; Kody (Julie) Bybee and Kottie (Jeff) Buck; 11 grandchildren, Olivia Bybee, Joshua Bybee, Carter Bybee, Caitlin Bybee, Grace Bybee, Tristan Bybee, Lily Buck, Chandler Buck, Jack Bybee, Sierra Buck, and Addison Bybee; his sisters, Pat Myers, Dorothy Rich, and Linda Bybee; his brothers, Jim Bybee, Don Bybee, Walt Bybee, Roy Bybee, Harvey Bybee, and Gerry Bybee.

Memorial services are set for 11:00am Thurs., Aug. 30, 2012 at Open Bible Christian Center in Rapid City with the Rev. Les Potts officiating.
